Annie Carpenter Comes to Yoga Sanctuary

Annie Carpenter, creator of SmartFLOW Yoga, is an international Yoga teacher based in Northern California. Known as a “teacher’s teacher” she has created a well-respected system of Yoga practice and Teaching methodology. As a committed student, Annie continues to bring her passion, curiosity, love of anatomy, meditation and classical philosophy into her teachings. SmartFLOW is a modern  approach with an anatomically sound foundation and inspired, creative sequencing which is rooted in deep respect for the lineages of Integral, Iyengar, and Ashtanga Yoga. Annie Carpenter hosts  5 workshops November 30th – December 2nd!

Teacher’s Practice: Deepening your Backbends with Inversions
Friday, Nov. 30th           12pm – 4pm

After a thorough and 3-plane shoulder warm-up (both releasing and strengthening), we’ll practice several inversions. Then, we’ll play with adding spinal extension and frontal hip lengthening, with fun propping and hands-on assists. A nice Return to Center will complete the afternoon.

Fluid, Dynamic Core
Saturday, Dec. 1st           8am -10am

Yogic core work is as challenging as any other system, but it needs to address all 3 planes and be fluid enough to engage while you are moving. Plus, it’s more fun that way!


Shoulder-Opening: Twists and “Baby” Backbends
Saturday, Dec. 1st           12pm – 3pm

Essential shoulder-opening that moves from the most basic onwards to address the most flexible (where it looks more like stabilizing!) Then, we’ll use twists to segue the shoulder-work into deepening backbends that require arm extension.


Hip Opening with Pelvic Stabilization
Sunday, Dec. 2nd           8am – 10am

Finding your edge seems simple, until you realize how it’s always changing! We’ll look at hip socket-initiated movement that won’t disturb intra-pelvic stability. So, this practice will be slow and deep, and demand your full attention.


Pranayama and Meditation: Releasing the Obstacles to Joy
Sunday, Dec. 2nd           1pm – 4pm”

We’ll begin with a “dharma talk” to set the tone for the afternoon. Then, you’ll prep the body for supported pranayama, and practice 3 essential forms of breathing. Next, find the perfect support for sitting, and learn 2 more forms of pranayama that will lead us into a brief, guided mediation. It will be a sweet, quite and inspiring afternoon!

2 Hour Morning Class (Dynamic Core or Hip Opening) — $45 by Oct. 15 / $50 After
3 Hour Afternoon Class (Shoulder Opening or Pranayama) — $55 by Oct. 15 / $60 After
